Data Scientist – AI & Risk Analytics

About the role

We are partnering with a leading global financial services organisation to hire a Data Scientist for its AI and Risk Analytics team in Sydney. The role focuses on developing and operationalising machine‑learning solutions that transform risk management processes across the enterprise.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy machine learning and AI solutions that address complex business challenges.
• Build robust data science models using Python and SQL on large, diverse datasets.
• Collaborate with data engineers, software engineers and business stakeholders to productionise models and integrate them into enterprise platforms.
• Monitor model performance, identify improvement opportunities and support ongoing optimisation.
• Develop proof‑of‑concepts and prototypes for new AI capabilities, including emerging Generative AI technologies where appropriate.
• Ensure solutions comply with governance, documentation and risk‑control standards.
• Present technical findings and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Required profile

• Proven commercial experience delivering machine learning or advanced analytics solutions into production environments.
• Strong programming skills in Python and advanced SQL capability.
• Experience working with large, complex datasets and building scalable analytical solutions.
• Familiarity with software‑engineering practices such as Git, version control and CI/CD workflows.
• Solid understanding of statistical modelling, machine‑learning techniques and model evaluation.
• Ability to work closely with engineering teams to deploy and support production solutions.
• Awareness of data governance, model risk, compliance and enterprise delivery standards.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging both technical and business stakeholders.
