Data Engineer

About the role

Nine, Australia's largest locally owned media company, is looking for a Data Engineer to join its Commercial Growth Squad. You will build and sustain data products across their full development and maintenance lifecycle, turning data into actionable insights that support strategy and ad revenue.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement data models aligned with business needs.
• Develop and maintain reliable ETL pipelines that load and transform data from many sources into data warehouses.
• Make sure pipelines are scalable and efficient, considering data volume, velocity and variety.
• Set up data quality checks and validation processes, and monitor and alert on issues so they can be resolved early.
• Perform root cause analysis on incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Contribute to the technical design and vision of the data platform.
• Explore new AI technologies and methods to improve data engineering workflows.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and building data pipelines, ETL processes and managing data infrastructure.
• Experience delivering workflow orchestration solutions and managing task dependencies with a tool such as Apache Airflow.
• A strong analytical mindset and the ability to tackle complex technical challenges creatively.
• Desirable: a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software/Data Engineering, Data Science, IT or a related field.
• Desirable: experience with GCP, AWS or Azure, CI/CD test automation, cloud infrastructure as code (Terraform) and applying AI to data engineering.

Required skills

• Strong programming in at least one language, such as Python.
• Proficiency in SQL.
• Data modelling experience in an enterprise environment.
