Data Engineer

About the role

Join Roy Morgan's Technology department to build and enable a unified AWS data platform on Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio. You will work hands‑on across the entire data stack, supporting Data Science and Data Analyst teams with governed, self‑service data access.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain the data platform on SageMaker Unified Studio, providing self‑service access for analysts and scientists.
• Define and enforce Redshift storage standards, including modelling, schemas, naming, partitioning and performance.
• Design, build and maintain analytical cubes for fast, consistent data views.
• Develop and improve API‑enabled data contracts and queries for client access.
• Create data pipelines (ingestion, ETL/ELT, transformation, modelling) on AWS services.
• Expand the data lake and warehouse, selecting and tuning engines for columnar storage and fast queries.
• Migrate legacy batch processes to modern serverless and containerised pipeline platforms.
• Implement data quality, lineage, reconciliation and observability from day one.
• Apply data‑security best practices such as role‑based access, masking, encryption and auditing.
• Research and introduce new data tools and engines that fit business needs.

Required profile

• 3‑5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, preferably in big‑data or market‑research environments.
• Strong background in data pipeline design, ETL/ELT processes and lake/warehouse architectures.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS data services (Redshift, Glue, S3, Lambda, Fargate, Lake Formation, EMR, SageMaker, SageMaker Unified Studio).
• Experience defining storage standards and building analytical cubes.
• Proven ability to re‑platform legacy batch pipelines onto modern cloud platforms.
• Solid communication skills and a consultative approach with business stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in IT, Data Science or a related field.
