Cyber Systems Security Engineer

About the role

The Cyber Systems Security Engineer will deliver secure outcomes across complex Defence systems, translating cyber security requirements into practical engineering solutions and providing trusted technical advice to engineering, operational and program stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Translate cyber security requirements into engineering solutions throughout the system lifecycle.
• Review system designs, architecture and technical changes to assess security impacts and ensure compliance.
• Conduct threat modelling, threat hunting and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate cyber risks.
• Support development, validation and verification of security controls and risk treatments.
• Provide technical expertise, troubleshooting support and guidance to engineering, architecture, operations and program stakeholders.
• Mentor technical teams, promote cyber security awareness and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Significant experience in systems security engineering within Defence or complex ICT environments.
• Strong knowledge of Defence cyber security frameworks such as DCSAAF, ISM, PSPF, DSPF and SPARTA.
• Proven experience in security architecture, assurance, accreditation and risk management.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Defence security clearance.

Required skills

• Linux administration and system hardening.
• VMware environments.
• Elastic Security and SIEM technologies.
• Threat modelling, threat hunting and vulnerability assessment.
• Network architecture, identity and access management, and ASD‑approved cryptographic requirements.
• AI prompting as applied to cyber security.
