Counsellor, Child Sexual Response Service

About the role

Anglicare WA is seeking a Counsellor for its Marooloo Child Sexual Response Service, based in Derby, Western Australia. The role provides therapeutic support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people under 25 who have experienced sexual abuse or trauma, and also works with young people responsible for, or at risk of, sexually abusing other children. It is a full-time fixed-term contract of 37.5 hours per week until 31 December 2027, co-located with other Anglicare WA staff in the Derby office, with clinical supervision and line management support provided remotely from the Broome office.

Key responsibilities

• Provide consultation, assessment, referral and counselling for children, parents and extended family members and carers exposed to child abuse
• Develop and deliver educational groups for parents and carers, children and community members
• Work with local Child Protection and Family Services staff, police and health agencies to support clients and promote the Indigenous Child Sexual Abuse Referral Service (ICSARS)

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling
• Significant experience working with traumatised children and young people
• Demonstrated experience working in a culturally appropriate way with Aboriginal clients
• Ability to work autonomously and manage your own workload
• Current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a WA Working with Children Check and a WA driver's licence

Required skills

• Experience facilitating groups with children and/or adults
• Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement
• Athena Penelope experience is a distinct advantage; knowledge of Derby and surrounding communities is also an advantage

What we offer

• Salary of $114,607 to $117,074 full time, including a 10% remote allowance and 12% superannuation
