Correctional Registered Nurse - Casuarina (Fixed Term)

About the role

St John WA holds a contract with the Department of Justice to deliver nursing services across correctional facilities in the Perth metropolitan region. It is seeking experienced Registered Nurses for a full-time, 6-month fixed-term role in the Correctional Health team at Casuarina Prison, with potential for extension. The nurse works 40 hours per week on a rotating 12-hour roster, covering day and night shifts in the new 39-bed Assisted Care Unit (ACU) and Outpatient Clinic.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care in a correctional health setting
• Complete nursing assessments and clinical reviews
• Manage acute and chronic health presentations
• Provide wound care and treat minor injuries
• Monitor patients and escalate clinical deterioration
• Support ongoing patient care and follow-up
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team
• Maintain professional boundaries and clinical standards

Required profile

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions
• Minimum 5 years of recent nursing experience
• Confident clinical judgement, adaptable and able to build professional relationships while keeping clear boundaries
• Willingness to complete background and integrity checks

Required skills

• Current Advanced Life Support Certificate 1, or willingness to obtain it
• Current CPR certificate
• Current WA Working with Children Check
• Cannulation and venepuncture competency
