Corporate Counsel, Pacific (Core+ Australia)

About the role

Join AIG’s Global Legal, Compliance and Regulatory team as Corporate Counsel, Pacific, providing end‑to‑end legal and regulatory support for the company’s operations in Australia and New Zealand. This 12‑month fixed‑term position works closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel to ensure growth opportunities are pursued in a legally sound manner.

Key responsibilities

• Review and negotiate policy wordings, schedules, endorsements and distribution arrangements across insurance products.
• Advise on compliance with Australian insurance law, the Corporations Act, Insurance Contracts Act, privacy law (APPs) and other financial services regulations.
• Instruct and manage external counsel for specialised matters, including complex policy wording reviews.
• Support premium funding arrangements, policy cancellations and provide legal sign‑off on collateral, communications and market‑facing materials.
• Assist with broader regulatory and company secretarial matters, including APRA and ASIC requirements.

Required profile

• Post‑qualified senior legal experience, preferably in‑house, with a focus on general insurance.
• Australian practising certificate with unrestricted rights to work in Australia.
• Strong understanding of insurance concepts, contract law, privacy law and financial services regulations.
• Proven ability to deliver commercially aware legal advice while managing detail and escalation.
