Controls Testing Specialist – Business & Private Bank

About the role

The Controls Testing Specialist will join the Control Testing Team within ANZ’s Business & Private Bank division. This first‑line risk function provides independent assurance that controls are properly designed and operating effectively across the bank’s operations. The role focuses on quality assurance of Control Self‑Assessments and independent control testing to support a robust non‑financial risk framework.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and deliver the Quality Assurance (QA) plan for Control Self‑Assessments (CSA) across the Business & Private Bank control population in line with the NFR Framework.
• Report progress of the QA plan to key stakeholders and act as the subject‑matter expert for the division.
• Identify control uplift, rationalisation and improvement opportunities to strengthen the control landscape.
• Propose and implement process improvements for control testing to gain productivity and efficiency gains without compromising quality.
• Escalate issues promptly and manage them effectively.
• Build strong, influential relationships with stakeholders across the division.
• Support the implementation and ongoing operation of the Non‑Financial Risk (NFR) Framework.
• Oversee the end‑to‑end QA of CSAs, from planning and sampling to execution and reporting, ensuring compliance with current framework requirements.
• Perform independent control testing, assessing design and operating effectiveness for manual, automated, IT‑dependent or hybrid controls.

Required profile

• Permanent, full‑time position based in Melbourne (or Sydney/Brisbane).
• Demonstrated experience in control testing, risk assurance or audit within a banking or financial services environment.
• Strong analytical abilities and the capacity to communicate findings to senior stakeholders.
