Communications Officer – Health Department

About the role
The Communications Officer provides high‑quality communication services for both internal and external stakeholders within the Tasmanian public health system. Working in a fast‑paced hospital environment, you will manage switchboard operations, monitor critical alarm systems and act as the first point of contact for patients, staff and the public.
Key responsibilities
- Operate the Unified Attendant Switchboard Console, online directory and reception rostering to deliver professional call handling.
- Monitor communication, alarm and duress systems throughout the hospital and coordinate with security on 24‑hour duress alerts, screening and site access.
- Provide front‑desk reception services, responding to enquiries and managing departmental room keys and equipment.
Required profile
- Demonstrated ability to understand or quickly learn the operation of a large intelligent network and attendant console.
- Sound knowledge or willingness to acquire knowledge of communication network and support services.
- Excellent communication skills at all organisational levels, with the ability to handle sensitive situations diplomatically and confidentially.

What we offer
- Permanent full‑time or part‑time positions (up to 76 hours per fortnight).
- Salary range $68,854 – $73,947 AUD per annum (pro‑rata).
