Commercial Finance Specialist

About the role

The Commercial Finance Specialist will partner with the operational leadership team at Dawson Mine to embed a financial perspective into day‑to‑day decisions. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will provide insight, modelling and reporting that drive value‑accretive outcomes for the mine.

Key responsibilities

• Develop commercial insights and business case models to support capital and operating decisions.
• Provide reporting tools and financial analysis for asset reliability, life‑cycle management and total cost of ownership.
• Analyse deviations from plan, identify root causes and communicate financial impacts.
• Perform cost variance assessments and recommend improvements for both capital and operating expenditures.
• Support accurate forecasting and budgeting, incorporating risks and opportunities.
• Deliver discipline‑specific financial reports with operational commentary.
• Identify commercial improvement opportunities and enable effective partnering across functions.

Required profile

• Postgraduate or tertiary qualification in Business Accounting, Finance or Economics.
• CA/CPA qualified or actively studying towards qualification.
• Experience with complex commercial finance projects in a large organisation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work with senior stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Queensland coal mining legislation is desirable.

Required skills

• Integrated ERP system experience (SAP).
