About the role
SGS is seeking a motivated Coal Technician to join its Energy Minerals Division in Bowen on a casual basis. The role involves preparing, analysing and reporting on coal and related samples in line with international standards, supporting the mining industry in Queensland.
Key responsibilities
- Follow procedures for sampling, recording, preparation, analysis, storage and reporting of coal materials.
- Assist with preventative maintenance of preparation equipment and ensure safe laboratory practices.
- Use CCLAS to book samples, perform analyses and coordinate sample pick‑ups.
- Carry out routine shipping, exploration project sampling and analysis tasks.
- Plan shift workflows and support various testing, sampling and analytical operations.
Required profile
- Previous coal sampling, preparation or testing experience preferred.
- Basic computer skills, including Excel; CCLAS experience a plus.
- Ability to work safely, meet tight deadlines and adopt a flexible, team‑oriented approach.
