Coal Quality Tester

About the role

ALS Coal Technology is seeking one full-time Coal Quality Tester to join its team at Riverview, Queensland. This is hands-on physical testing work, an entry-level position with the potential for long-term employment. The team evaluates metallurgical and thermal coal using advanced equipment such as pilot and small-scale coke ovens and a boiler simulator furnace.

Key responsibilities

• Safely handle and process large coal and coke samples.
• Load and unload material from ovens operating at high temperatures.
• Perform physical testing such as crushing, sizing and dividing.
• Record and transfer validated test results into systems.
• Carry out general site duties and report safety incidents.

Required profile

• No prior experience required; full training is provided.
• Strong focus on safety, quality and teamwork.
• Physically fit and able to handle repetitive manual work in a dusty and hot environment.
• Willingness to learn, wear protective equipment and meet production deadlines.
• Eligible to work in Australia (citizen or permanent resident, or holder of a valid working visa).

Required skills

• Solid numeracy and literacy.
• Basic computer skills.
