Control Systems Engineer

About the role

A client of Qest Human Resources is expanding its engineering team and is looking for a Control Systems Engineer. The engineer designs, develops and implements control systems for a wide range of industrial applications, working closely with project teams so that the systems meet technical specifications and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and commission control systems for automation and process control applications.
• Work with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications.
• Develop control algorithms and programming for PLCs, SCADA systems and DCS.
• Test and troubleshoot systems to ensure reliability and performance.
• Support ongoing maintenance, upgrades and optimisation of control systems.
• Prepare and review technical documentation such as specifications, control strategies and test procedures.
• Take part in project planning, budgeting and scheduling.
• Keep up to date with developments in control systems technology.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Automation or a related field.
• Proven experience with control system design, PLC programming, SCADA and DCS.
• Strong understanding of control algorithms such as PID and fuzzy logic.
• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose control system issues, and strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Required skills

• Ladder Logic, Structured Text or Function Block Diagram.
• Industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus and Ethernet/IP.
• HMI/SCADA design and configuration.
• Desired: process control experience, knowledge of SIS and functional safety standards (IEC 61508, IEC 61511), and tools such as AutoCAD, MATLAB or LabVIEW.
