Clinical Psychologist - Youth Cancer Service

About the role

Calvary Mater Newcastle is seeking a Clinical Psychologist or Senior Clinical Psychologist to join its Consultation Liaison Psychiatry team, working in the Youth Cancer Service. The role provides psychological support to adolescent and young adult patients (aged 15-25) diagnosed with cancer, as well as to their family members or carers, who face psychological, emotional and medical challenges related to cancer diagnosis and treatment. The position is internal to Calvary Mater and open only to Hunter New England staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based assessment and intervention of psychological problems for young people with cancer and their families
• As a member of a multidisciplinary team, assess allocated patients and plan appropriate action
• Communicate with key stakeholders and document assessments, interventions, case plans and other significant information in the medical record
• Engage in clinical research

Required profile

• AHPRA-authorised psychologist with endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist
• Completed or near completion of a post-graduate Clinical or Health Psychology program at a recognised university (master's degree or higher, or equivalent of at least 2 years full-time study)
• Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice for psychological disorders common in adolescents and young adults with cancer
• Experience in cognitive-behavioural therapy and other evidence-based interventions in individual and group settings
• Unlimited working rights in Australia; successful completion of pre-employment checks (references, work rights, criminal history, WWCC); evidence of immunisation as required
