Civil Maintenance Officer

About the role

Cardinia Shire Council is hiring a Civil Maintenance Officer in Pakenham. The role involves operating machinery, maintaining roads and drainage and helping build the infrastructure that locals rely on every day. It is a 9-day fortnight position with varied tasks and machinery, and is supported by experienced professionals who mentor their team.

Key responsibilities

• Keep roads, drains and public spaces safe and well maintained
• Operate trucks and civil plant
• Help with manual tasks such as digging, lifting and raking
• Care for the tools and machinery used every day
• Help ensure worksites are safe for everyone

Required profile

• Current Heavy Rigid Victorian Driver Licence, or willingness to upgrade (paid time available)
• Within 3 months of eligibility, obtain an upgrade to a Heavy Combination Victorian Driver Licence; Cardinia will provide paid work time but will not reimburse costs
• Construction Induction Card (White Card)
• Interest in civil maintenance or machinery and ability to work in a team and follow instructions
• Valid Australian working rights
• All successful applicants must pass a National Police Check and pre-employment medicals; some positions may also require a financial background check, traffic check or Working with Children check

Required skills

• Experience and qualifications in plant and equipment operation (excavator, skid steer, grader, backhoe, etc.)
• Basic tech skills, comfortable using a tablet to check schedules or messages
• Strong focus on safety
