Chief Finance Officer – Health Service

About the role

The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) will lead finance strategy for a complex, multisite health service across north‑west Queensland. Reporting to the Health Service Chief Executive, the CFO will shape financial stewardship, drive transformation and support remote communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership for finance, procurement, contracts, accommodation services, building & maintenance, and health information management.
• Manage an annual operating budget of approximately $323 million, overseeing budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting.
• Lead financial analysis and decision‑making across hospitals, remote services and corporate functions.
• Drive process improvement, reform initiatives and long‑term structural enhancements.
• Conduct quarterly performance discussions and contribute to governance, audit and finance committee processes.
• Partner with senior leaders to improve service delivery outcomes for remote communities.

Required profile

• Senior leadership experience in large, complex or operationally diverse organisations.
• Strong financial management capability, including budgeting, reporting and commercial acumen.
• Proven ability to rebuild capability, stability and culture during change and renewal.
• Relationship‑focused, able to build trust across diverse stakeholder groups.
• Hands‑on, pragmatic approach with resilience to operate in a regional environment.
