Chemist (Shift Relief) - Testing Services

About the role

BlueScope's Western Port Manufacturing facility in Hastings, Victoria, is looking for a Chemist (Shift Relief) in its Testing Services team. The site operates 24x7 and produces products such as COLORBOND steel for export and domestic customers. The role involves hands-on chemical analysis of products, processes and environmental samples in a high-performing laboratory, mostly Monday to Friday 8-hour days, with flexibility to cover the Shift Chemist position and availability for 12-hour shifts including weekends and public holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Provide shift relief and hands-on analytical testing, working with the team to support quality outcomes
• Contribute to a safe working environment and ensure quality analysis, evaluation and interpretation of data
• Use different techniques and adapt processes to help find the root causes of production issues
• Carry out testing methodology and routine maintenance to laboratory standards and Laboratory Quality Systems, taking corrective action when needed
• Identify opportunities to improve and streamline procedures and testing

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Science, Chemistry or a related discipline
• Extensive laboratory experience
• Ability to move from a day-time role to a shift relief role
• Comfortable with general lifting in a production environment
• Able to work independently while supporting the team
