Casual Swim Instructor

About the role

VenuesWest is seeking casual swimming instructors to join its swim schools at Perth High Performance Centre in Mount Claremont and Arena Joondalup. The work is casual, paid at Level 3.2 VWGA ($41.14 per hour including casual loading) plus superannuation, and covers shifts within the opening hours of each venue.

The swim school runs a continuous program in indoor heated pools, from babies (Arena Joondalup) and toddlers (Perth HPC) through to adult lessons, and offers holiday intensive classes in January. It is an Austswim recognised swim school with low class ratios.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver learn-to-swim lessons following the RLSS Swim and Survive curriculum, planning and organising classes and setting up and packing down equipment.
• Motivate and engage students, maintain class records and distribute certificates to students.
• Provide a high level of customer service, welcome parents and students on the pool deck and handle queries and complaints.
• Assist trainee instructors, help with stroke correction drills and other coaching duties as required.
• Take part in in-house training and keep qualifications current.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a swim teacher is required.
• Strong customer service and communication skills and a passion for swim teaching.
• Desirable: Infant and Pre-School Aquatics qualification.
• Candidates with significant teaching experience are encouraged to apply for a Pool Deck Supervisor position.

Required skills

• Current Western Australian Working with Children Check (WWCC)
• Current Austswim licence or equivalent
• Current CPR certificate
• First aid certificate (HLTAID003 or equivalent)
• Austswim Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety or ASCTA Swim Australia Teacher Certificate
• Austswim Assessor Certificate
