Casual Academic - Writing for International Students (WRIT1001)

About the role

The School of Languages and Cultures at the University of Queensland is seeking a casual academic to deliver the undergraduate course WRIT1001 Writing for International Students. Casual academics contribute to the University's teaching, research, outreach and student engagement work, and hours vary according to the class timetable, typically 8:00 am to 4:50 pm with occasional evening classes.

Key responsibilities

• Teach WRIT1001 Writing for International Students
• Support duties such as tutoring, marking, demonstrating, student outreach and advising, and moderating or facilitating
• Commitment for the whole of the semester is required

Required profile

• Minimum of an undergraduate degree, preferably in a field relevant to the course
• Demonstrated language ability commensurate with the course, with recent experience of the material or a capacity to learn it quickly
• Work rights in Australia for the duration of the appointment; visa sponsorship is not available
• Selection considers current postgraduate students approved by supervisors, outstanding student feedback, teaching experience, expertise in the subject and, for new postgraduates, lack of other tutoring experience

What we offer

• Casual appointment paid at $57.60 per hour ($68.13 for PhD-qualified)
• Pay determined by the category of duties under the University's Enterprise Agreement
• Some training provided
