Casual Academic - Institute of Modern Languages

About the role

The University of Queensland's Institute of Modern Languages is seeking expressions of interest from casual academics to be engaged on a casual basis. Casual academics contribute to the Institute's language teaching and community engagement through a range of academically focused services and activities. There is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work, and the casual rate varies by the type of work completed.

Key responsibilities

• Teaching
• Personalised tutoring
• Development of teaching materials
• Exam marking
• Preparation of lesson plans
• Report writing and other associated duties

Required profile

• Bachelor-level degree or other qualification in teaching, education, TESOL, languages or linguistics, or a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent
• Native speaker or native-like proficiency in the target language
• General or language teaching experience
• Work rights in Australia for the duration of the appointment; visa sponsorship is not available

Required skills

• Ability to develop programmes for specific language learning purposes
• Ability to evaluate and assess student progress
• Knowledge of current practices in language teaching methodology
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Flexible approach to teaching style in response to student needs
