CAD Technician (Civil Engineering Draftsperson)

About the role

Geosyntec Mining (formerly Red Earth Engineering), a specialist engineering consultancy in mine waste, tailings, geotechnical engineering and geosynthetic containment, is looking for a CAD Technician (Civil Engineering Draftsperson) to join its Perth team. The role supports a strong and growing project pipeline.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, edit and finalise technical drawings for engineering design documents used in reports, specifications, proposals, presentations and marketing materials.
• Operate a CAD computer using appropriate hardware and software to develop final drawings.
• Transfer information from engineering drawings to final CAD drawings using the correct symbols and drafting standards.
• Analyse sketches, notes and other input material to determine the best approach to complete drawings.
• Copy detailed plans and drawings and carry out non-routine complex drafting assignments.
• Operate plotters, printers, scanners and other input/output devices.
• Proofread CAD drawings for accuracy, format and grammar.
• Support the CAD Action Group by collaborating to improve CAD standards and efficiencies across the company.
• Perform other technical services as required.

Required profile

• Associate's degree or advanced diploma in CAD drafting, or graduation from an accredited high school.
• At least one year of CAD drafting experience in a professional setting, or equivalent training.
• Knowledge of civil engineering basics such as sheet organisation, topographical data, scales and coordinate systems is preferred.

Required skills

• Experience with recent releases of Autodesk AutoCAD, including annotation styles, multileaders, dimensions, sheet sets, paper space/model space, XREFs, layers, dynamic blocks and tool palettes.
• Passing an Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional exam within the last three years is encouraged.
• Working knowledge of recent releases of Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Skype, Adobe PDF and Windows File Explorer.
