Business Development Manager

About the role

This field‑based position is for an experienced business development professional to build a market from the ground up across Australia. You will spend time on the road and in clinics, creating demand for a new ophthalmic treatment and turning interest into installed devices and regular patient flow.

Key responsibilities

• Open new accounts by identifying and calling on ophthalmology and optometry practices, presenting the treatment, securing evaluation agreements and conducting in‑clinic evaluations.
• Train clinic staff, support the first patients through treatment and grow treatment volume after the sale by planning treatment days and retaining patients.
• Work closely with a local distribution partner, coaching their reps, joining customer calls and attending regional events.
• Build a network of clinical advocates and key opinion leaders across the territory.
• Provide first‑line support for installed sites, resolving issues quickly to avoid lost treatment days.
• Represent MacuMira at national and regional meetings, share market intelligence and contribute to territory strategy.
• Report on pipeline, activity and forecast against agreed targets.

Required profile

• At least 5 years selling medical devices in Australia, preferably procedure‑based or capital equipment in ophthalmology.
• Experience opening a new market or launching a new technology.
• Credibility with clinicians and ability to sell across retinal specialists, general ophthalmologists, other subspecialists and optometrists.
• Established network in Australian eye care and experience selling through a distributor.
• Self‑motivated, comfortable working remotely with occasional early‑morning calls to head office in Calgary, Canada.
• Persistence, resilience and willingness to travel extensively, including regular interstate travel.
