Boilermaker - Weipa

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a Boilermaker to join its Main Workshop team at its Weipa operations in Far North Queensland. The role is residential, on a 9-day fortnight roster, and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. You will help maintain and improve critical site assets in a safety-focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Champion a strong safety culture and complete all work in line with Rio Tinto's safety standards and procedures.
• Perform fabrication, welding and repair work on mobile and fixed plant equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Inspect equipment, identify maintenance requirements and carry out repairs to required quality standards.
• Mentor apprentices and support the broader apprenticeship program.
• Maintain workshop housekeeping standards and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Trade qualification as a Boilermaker/Fabricator.
• Demonstrated experience in a maintenance or workshop environment.
• Strong commitment to safe work practices.
• Customer-focused, with strong attention to detail and work quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MIG, TIG and stick welding techniques.
• Pipe welding experience is desirable.
