Backend Engineer

About the role

Neurode Labs is developing brain‑computer interface technology with privacy, security and data integrity at its core. We are looking for a Backend Engineer to design and own a server architecture that connects thousands of headsets to our analytics platform, ensuring secure, reliable data flow from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of the core backend infrastructure handling bursty, large‑payload uploads from thousands of edge devices.
• Enforce strict data integrity, provenance and privacy through idempotent ingestion, hash‑verified payloads and append‑only audit logs.
• Build high‑throughput, reliable APIs that operate under HIPAA and GDPR compliance requirements.
• Expose a validated data‑plane to downstream machine‑learning and data‑science pipelines.
• Collaborate with a small, on‑site team to iterate quickly and maintain high system availability.

Required profile

• Full‑stack developer with a strong backend focus and experience delivering secure, scalable systems.
• 5+ years of professional experience is ideal, but a proven mindset for solving hard problems is essential.
• Background in sectors handling sensitive data (e.g., healthcare, fintech, defense) is a strong plus.
• Self‑starter who takes ownership, communicates clearly and works well in a collaborative environment.

Required skills

• Python (FastAPI preferred, Django acceptable)
• PostgreSQL – schema design, query optimisation, data security
• Design of burst‑capacity APIs: large‑payload uploads, validation, idempotency, back‑pressure handling
• Familiarity with AWS services
• Practical knowledge of HIPAA and GDPR compliance
• Experience with AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code)
