Aviation Equipment (GSE) Heavy Duty Mechanic

About the role

A Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Heavy Duty Mechanic is needed at an airport near Tullamarine, Victoria. You will keep the airport's ground service equipment in top condition, working closely with the Fleet Maintenance Coordinator and Airport Managers so that the entire GSE fleet runs smoothly and safely.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on the airport GSE fleet
• Carry out repairs and diagnose issues to keep equipment performing optimally
• Respond quickly to breakdowns and resolve them with minimal downtime
• Follow safety protocols during all maintenance tasks
• Guide and train team members on equipment operation and maintenance procedures
• Take part in equipment testing and inspections to meet industry standards
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, including equipment logs and repair reports
• Manage the inventory of spare parts and supplies
• Work with the Fleet Maintenance Coordinator and Airport Managers to prioritise maintenance schedules
• Conduct quality inspections on assets returning from maintenance providers

Required profile

• Trade qualification (required)
• Solid understanding of the aviation industry, especially ground support equipment operations and maintenance (preferred)
• Experience managing heavy vehicle, plant or equipment fleets, including parts management and lifecycle costing
• Strong electrical expertise, with wiring, circuits and control system knowledge and electrical troubleshooting
• Strong mechanical aptitude; a qualification in mechanics, automotive or plant trades preferred
• Self-motivated, able to work independently, with initiative and problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with Maintenance Management Systems preferred
