Automation Engineer – Material Handling Systems

About the role

Amazon Logistics is expanding its last‑mile operation in Australia and needs an experienced Automation Engineer to lead the development and improvement of control systems for material handling equipment. You will work on both new and existing equipment, ensuring reliable, safe, and cost‑effective automation across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Design, specify, implement and troubleshoot PLC‑based control systems for new and existing material handling equipment.
• Analyse performance data, resolve post‑implementation issues and drive continuous improvement.
• Research, evaluate and deploy new automation solutions to meet safety, productivity, quality and cost targets.
• Collaborate with domestic and international teams (Japan, Europe, worldwide) to standardise practices and share best‑in‑class solutions.
• Manage project timelines, documentation and vendor relationships, including third‑party equipment suppliers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years experience as an industrial, operations, manufacturing or project engineer in a manufacturing environment.
• 4+ years of hands‑on PLC programming experience.
• 1+ year of PLC/SCADA integration experience.
