Purchasing Officer – Vendor Management

About the role

We are looking for a Purchasing Officer to lead vendor management and procurement activities for a leading industrial engineering business supporting heavy‑industry operations. Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, you will develop supplier relationships, ensure compliance, and drive cost‑saving initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and service providers, ensuring quality, service and commercial value.
• Set up and oversee vendor onboarding, maintaining required documentation and approvals.
• Maintain accurate vendor master data, monitor compliance and insurance expiries within the ERP system.
• Negotiate pricing, terms and long‑term service agreements to achieve cost savings.
• Identify opportunities to reduce procurement costs and improve vendor performance.
• Support purchasing activities including sourcing, quotation, ordering and supplier coordination.
• Work with internal stakeholders to ensure timely availability of products and services at the right cost.
• Monitor supplier performance, mitigate supply‑chain risks and help minimise stock shortages or excess inventory.

Required profile

• Trade or commercial background in supply chain, logistics, purchasing or procurement.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in purchasing and/or vendor management.
• Proven experience managing supplier relationships and negotiating commercial terms.
• Strong commercial awareness with a track record of delivering cost savings.
• Experience with vendor onboarding, compliance documentation and ERP systems.

Required skills

• Intermediate Microsoft Office, solid Excel capability.
• Experience using SAP.
• Familiarity with Navision/Business Central.
