Automation Engineer – Advanced Aerospace Production

About the role

Boeing Defence Australia is seeking an Automation Engineer to join the MQ‑28 Ghost Bat production facility at Wellcamp, Toowoomba. You will work hands‑on in a high‑visibility defence programme, supporting the commissioning of state‑of‑the‑art composite fabrication equipment and shaping Australia’s aerospace manufacturing future.

Key responsibilities

• Support commissioning and installation of composite fabrication equipment in the new facility.
• Create documentation, training material and best‑practice guides for automated systems.
• Provide technical recommendations influencing production system design.
• Develop expertise on asset operations to meet composite fabrication requirements.
• Evaluate emerging technologies for potential business application.
• Offer technical guidance ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory and engineering standards.
• Assist with hands‑on process development and troubleshooting on production equipment.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, preferably Mechatronics or Mechanical.
• Minimum 1 year experience in automation and/or mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement principles is desirable.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Australian citizenship to meet Defence security requirements.
• Based at Wellcamp with willingness to travel to suppliers and other Boeing sites in Australia.
