About the role

The School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW seeks an Associate Professor in Systems to lead research and teaching in modern computing systems. This senior academic role combines high‑impact research with curriculum development and industry engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and lead research in operating systems, distributed systems, systems security, and systems for machine learning.
• Secure competitive research funding and manage research projects.
• Supervise higher degree research students to successful completion.
• Deliver high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and contribute to curriculum design.
• Participate in strategic planning, academic governance, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Required profile

• Established academic with a strong, sustained record of high‑impact research in computing systems.
• National or international reputation in areas such as operating systems, distributed systems, or systems security.
• Proven ability to obtain research funding and lead research teams.
• Experience in supervising graduate students and delivering university‑level teaching.
• Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and engagement with industry partners.
