Associate Engineer – Electrical, Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer to join its rail team in Sydney. You will design and deliver low‑voltage, high‑voltage, earthing and bonding solutions for major rail projects across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver lighting, low‑voltage, high‑voltage, earthing and bonding engineering services for rail projects.
• Produce engineering drawings, reports, specifications and tender packages from preliminary design through construction.
• Conduct feasibility studies, load calculations and site inspections.
• Review electrical designs to ensure compliance with Australian codes, standards and client requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to maintain quality and timeliness of deliverables.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years of industry experience in rail or transport infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of Australian electrical codes, safety assurance and system engineering processes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
