Associate Civil Designer – Townsville

About the role

WSP is seeking an Associate Civil Designer to join its growing team in Townsville. You will lead the planning, investigation and concept development of major capital projects, turning early ideas into practical, buildable solutions for roads, drainage and other civil infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning, investigation and concept development for major capital projects.
• Prepare detailed designs for roads, drainage and a broad range of civil infrastructure.
• Manage and monitor technical quality of work performed by the project design team.
• Develop and review engineering drawings and reports, incorporating road safety and design philosophy principles.
• Monitor task‑based scope, time and cost management systems.
• Mentor junior designers and coach others in managing competing demands.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on large‑scale infrastructure projects.

Required profile

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 10‑15 years of consultancy experience in road design, drainage services or related civil engineering design.
• Extensive knowledge of Australian Standards, local Road Authority Standards and other civil design standards.
• Active pursuit of chartered status and commitment to continuous improvement of OHS&E and quality systems.

Required skills

• High‑level proficiency with 2D CADD software.
• High‑level proficiency with 3D CADD software and 3D modelling.
• Expertise in road design and drainage design.
• Strong understanding of civil engineering design principles and standards.
