Assistant Head of English

About the role

St Augustine's College is seeking an Assistant Head of English to join its English Faculty at the start of the 2027 school year. The role supports the Head of English in leading a high-performing faculty, focusing on curriculum excellence, staff development and student outcomes, and covers Years 7-12.

Key responsibilities

• Support curriculum leadership and implementation across the faculty
• Work with the Head of English to drive excellence in teaching and learning
• Mentor and support teachers, including early career educators
• Use student data and evidence-informed practice to support continuous improvement
• Assist with faculty administration, planning and communication
• Contribute to the College's pastoral, co-curricular and community life

Required profile

• Teaching experience in Extension and/or Advanced English
• Proven effectiveness as a classroom practitioner
• Previous leadership experience, such as curriculum leadership, mentoring, coaching or delivery of strategic educational initiatives
• Strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
• Commitment to the Catholic and Augustinian ethos of the College

Required skills

• Appropriate teaching qualifications and NESA accreditation
• Current Working With Children Check clearance
• Commitment to safeguarding and the wellbeing of children and young people
