Assistant Head of Department – Business & Economics

About the role

The Assistant Head of Department (Business and Economics) will support strategic leadership, curriculum development and operational effectiveness across the College’s Business and Economics learning areas. Working closely with the Head of Department, you will provide curriculum leadership and teaching excellence for senior and middle years students, fostering innovation and outstanding outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Head of Department in leading a high‑performing Business and Humanities team.
• Oversee curriculum design, delivery and review for Economics, Business, Accounting and Legal Studies in Years 11‑12.
• Lead MYP Business subjects (Commerce, Business, Legal Studies, Economics) for Years 9‑10.
• Teach Senior Economics through to Year 12, modelling exemplary practice.
• Mentor teaching staff through collaborative planning and professional learning.
• Use student achievement data to drive continuous improvement.
• Contribute to whole‑school academic initiatives as a member of the Academic Leadership Team.

Required profile

• Extensive experience teaching Economics and Business at secondary level.
• Strong knowledge of Queensland senior curriculum requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to lead curriculum improvement and mentor staff.
• Experience with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme is highly regarded.
