Assistant Director, Wellbeing

About the role

The People Branch of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Wellbeing. This senior role leads a small team of rehabilitation professionals and drives early‑intervention, case‑management and wellbeing initiatives across the department.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver best‑practice rehabilitation case management within employment and legislative frameworks.
• Manage complex wellbeing matters, including preparation and submission of Comcare documentation.
• Develop and implement tailored wellbeing initiatives, resources and strategies.
• Liaise with managers and staff at all levels to assess and resolve health‑related issues.
• Produce sensitive written material and presentations such as reports, briefs and policies.
• Provide strategic advice to senior executives and managers.
• Lead and support a small team of rehabilitation professionals.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to foster trust and respect in the workplace.
• Strong judgement, resilience and the capacity to operate in time‑critical environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management, including communication and negotiation with senior leaders.
• Significant expertise in complex case management, particularly within the Comcare scheme.
• Proven experience delivering projects that meet legislative and best‑practice standards.
• High‑level written and verbal communication skills.
• Sound risk‑management and decision‑making abilities.
