APS6 Policy Officer - Pharmaceutical Pricing

About the role

A Federal Government department is seeking an experienced pharmacist with an active Baseline Security Clearance to join a specialist team that assesses and manages pharmaceutical pricing applications under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). At APS6 level, the role combines pharmacy experience with research, analysis and policy work to support evidence-based pricing decisions. It is advertised as a 12-month labour-hire contract with hybrid working.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and manage PBS pricing applications
• Review clinical, financial and market information
• Research and analyse information to support pricing decisions
• Prepare policy papers, briefs, reports and correspondence
• Draft committee papers, agendas and meeting minutes
• Support monthly PBS pricing updates
• Work with internal and external stakeholders

Required profile

• Professional experience as a practising pharmacist
• Current Baseline Security Clearance
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to manage competing deadlines

Required skills

• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail and research and data analysis skills
• Written communication and report-writing skills
• Confidence with Excel and numerical information
• Stakeholder communication

What we offer

• $65-$73 per hour plus superannuation, depending on experience
• 12-month contract with potential for extension
• Full-time hours, with a four-day week possibly considered for a strong candidate
• Hybrid working, generally 1-2 days in the office
• Engagement starting 1 December 2026
