Alternate Underground Manager

About the role

Join Northern Star’s high‑performing underground team at the KCGM Operations as an Alternate Underground Manager. Reporting to the Underground Manager, you will provide leadership support to operational and technical teams to safely and effectively execute the mining plan.

Key responsibilities

• Control, manage and supervise the operational and technical services team, including external mining contractors, to achieve business plans safely.
• Prepare forecasts and develop mining strategy with geology, planning and production engineering input to meet cost, development, ore production and infrastructure targets.
• Direct the underground technical team to produce plans and designs aligned with the mining schedule and monthly production targets.
• Maintain regular communication with mine personnel, other operation areas, and site visitors to share updates, direction and performance targets.
• Develop direct reports through coaching, training and regular appraisals.
• Champion a safety‑first culture by proactively identifying and mitigating mining risks.
• Analyse and report operational performance, identifying early interventions to maintain targets.
• Lead continuous improvement projects to enhance efficiency and safety.

• Proven ability to provide leadership support to operational and technical teams.
• Strong communication skills for managing performance and conveying mining information.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and risk mitigation.
• Experience in supervising underground mining operations and external contractors.
• Capability to develop and mentor personnel.
