Transport Officer – Deceased Persons

About the role

St John Ambulance Victoria is seeking Transport Officers to provide specialised transport services for deceased persons across the Melbourne metropolitan area and regional Victoria. The role operates on a rotating roster of 8‑10 hour shifts, with activation for collections or planned repatriations as required.

Key responsibilities

• Collect deceased persons from places of death, either with a crew member or independently for repatriation.
• Transport bodies safely and respectfully to the Coroners Court or designated facilities.
• Follow occupational health and safety (OHS) and manual‑handling procedures at all times.
• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with integrity.
• Collaborate with team members and external stakeholders, including families.

Required profile

• High level of resilience and ability to manage complex, emotionally charged situations.
• Excellent verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
• Professional, respectful approach to handling deceased persons.
• Full driver’s licence with a safe driving record.
• Understanding of OHS and manual‑handling protocols.
