Software Engineer, Sovereign Cloud

About the role

Google Australia’s Sovereign Cloud team is looking for a Software Engineer to help build, deliver, and operate secure private‑cloud services for Australian Federal Government customers. You will work on critical projects that require high reliability, scalability, and security, collaborating closely with Google product teams to continuously improve the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain secure private‑cloud services for government clients.
• Scale, secure, and operate cloud deployments in complex environments.
• Collaborate with Google product teams to enhance technology and address emerging requirements.
• Contribute to system architecture and code quality across the full stack.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of professional software development experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) clearance.
• Preferred: Master’s degree, experience with data structures and algorithms, and background in developing accessible technologies.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C++, Java, Python or Go.
• Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Experience building accessible software solutions.
