Senior Communications Manager, Australia

About the role

Shield AI is seeking a Senior Communications Manager to lead media relations and communications initiatives in Australia. Based in Melbourne, you will shape the narrative around cutting‑edge defence technologies and build the company’s reputation as a trusted local partner.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute earned‑media strategies, securing coverage in defence, aerospace, technology and policy outlets.
• Serve as the primary contact for Australian media, managing inquiries, briefings and issue communications.
• Create and edit communications materials such as press releases, executive talking points, speeches and case studies.
• Lead communications planning for major events like the Land Forces and Avalon Airshow, including media targeting and on‑site management.
• Collaborate with regional communications, business development, government relations and engineering teams to align messaging with business priorities.

Required profile

• 8+ years of communications experience, preferably in defence, aerospace, national security or related B2G sectors.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, political science, international relations, marketing or equivalent experience.
• Proven track record of securing high‑quality earned media coverage in Australia with established journalist relationships.
• Strong written and verbal storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
• Experience working cross‑functionally with technical, business‑development and government‑relations teams.
