About the role
Varsity College is looking for an experienced Science Technician to support the Head of Department and teachers in delivering high‑quality practical science education. The role involves managing laboratory resources, preparing chemicals, and ensuring a safe learning environment for students from Prep to Year 12.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, distribute, and set up samples, demonstrations, and class sets of equipment for laboratory lessons.
- Mix chemical solutions of known concentration from bulk supplies for both preparation‑ and teaching‑lab use.
- Work independently in the laboratory, recognising and safely managing chemical hazards.
- Maintain teaching resources, classrooms, storerooms, preparation rooms and laboratories in a clean, safe, orderly and secure manner.
- Assist teaching staff with demonstrations, instruct students on equipment use and care, and support field trips while applying safety measures.
Required profile
- Previous experience as a Science Technician in a secondary school setting is highly desirable.
- Ability to work both with direct supervision and independently, following guidelines from the supervisor.
- Strong teamwork skills to support staff in achieving desired outcomes.
Required skills
- Assembly, cleaning and storage of laboratory apparatus and equipment.
- Safe handling, preparation and disposal of chemical, biological and LPG materials.
- Use of science‑related software and management applications.
- Application of workplace health and safety standards in a school laboratory.
