Associate/Full Professor & Director, Statistical Consulting Centre

About the role

The University of Melbourne seeks an Associate or Full Professor to lead its Statistical Consulting Centre. This senior academic position combines strategic leadership, high‑impact consulting, and the development of innovative statistical education programmes. The role is based on the Parkville campus and offers a full‑time, continuing appointment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for consulting, research, teaching and training activities of the Statistical Consulting Centre.
• Oversee and expand consulting services for government, industry, business and university clients, ensuring high‑quality statistical support.
• Develop and deliver innovative statistical education programmes and short courses for students, researchers and external participants.
• Supervise and mentor academic staff and graduate researchers, fostering excellence in applied statistics and consulting practice.
• Build national and international collaborations to enhance the School’s research profile and real‑world impact in data science.

Required profile

• Research doctorate in Statistics with an internationally recognised reputation.
• Outstanding record of high‑quality statistical consulting across business, industry, government and academia.
• Evidence of sustained, impactful research outputs and leadership of collaborative projects in applied or methodological statistics.
• Proven ability to communicate complex statistical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
• Experience providing inclusive, strategic leadership of teams and nurturing a high‑performance consulting culture.
• Experience in high‑profile consultations such as legal reporting, expert‑witness roles or government advisory work.
