Machine Learning Engineer – HFT Trading Systems

About the role

A well-capitalised, privately held high-frequency trading firm operating across APAC markets is looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to lead its machine learning efforts. The role sits inside the trading research team, working directly with quant researchers and traders to turn their research into production-grade systems. It is not a management position, and there is no separate ML team.

The firm is small and values autonomy and ownership over process and hierarchy. The position is based in Sydney or Hong Kong, on site five days a week in the CBD, and offers a base salary plus a discretionary bonus.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full machine learning lifecycle, from data ingestion and feature engineering through model training, deployment and monitoring.
• Build and maintain scalable, high-quality data pipelines.
• Deploy, optimise and support large-scale models in a latency-sensitive production environment.
• Partner directly with traders and quantitative researchers to productionise research and trading strategies.
• Continuously improve the firm's machine learning infrastructure, tooling and workflows.

Required profile

• Proven experience building and maintaining production machine learning systems.
• Background in high-frequency trading, algorithmic trading or quantitative research is highly regarded.
• Experience building ML infrastructure in leading technology companies is viewed favourably.
• Strong academic pedigree and a desire to take ownership in a high-performance environment.
• Based in APAC or willing to relocate.

Required skills

• Expert-level Python; C++ experience is advantageous.
• Designing and operating large-scale data pipelines and model deployment infrastructure.
