Field Service Technician – Underground Mining

About the role

Alfabs Mining is expanding and is looking for experienced Electrical and Mechanical Field Service Technicians to work on underground mining equipment. Based DIDO from Emerald, Mackay or Rockhampton in Queensland or FIFO from Kurri Kurri in New South Wales, you will travel to support customers across Queensland, providing diagnostics, breakdown repairs, rebuilds and commissioning of specialised underground mining, material handling and face machinery.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical faults on underground mining equipment.
• Perform planned and preventative maintenance, as well as emergency breakdown repairs.
• Carry out equipment rebuilds, refurbishment, assembly and commissioning.
• Install, test and commission electrical components and control systems.
• Conduct pre‑start checks, inspections and statutory testing.

Required profile

• Relevant Electrical or Mechanical trade qualification.
• Underground coal mining field service experience with coal cutting/face machinery.
• Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic capability.
• Commitment to safety and ability to work autonomously or as part of a crew.
• Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel across NSW and Queensland.

Required skills

• Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Reading and interpreting schematics, engineering drawings and scopes of work.
• Installation and commissioning of electrical components and control systems.
• Preventative maintenance and equipment rebuild.
• Experience with underground coal cutting and face machinery.
