Data Engineer

About the role

Join the Velocity Frequent Flyer team at Virgin Australia and help power one of the country’s largest loyalty programmes. As a Data Engineer you will design, build and maintain data solutions on the Databricks platform that enable analytics, reporting, dashboarding and advanced marketing insights.

Key responsibilities

• Develop scalable data pipelines and processes in Databricks using SQL and Python.
• Design, test and implement data products that solve business problems across marketing, customer analytics and reporting.
• Manage and optimise data assets for performance, reliability, cost efficiency and scalability.
• Automate manual workflows and improve data delivery processes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide effective data solutions.
• Advise squads and leadership on data technologies, project planning and timeline estimates.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in a data engineering or similar role.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across the business.
• Experience working in fast‑paced, multi‑priority environments.

Required skills

• Databricks (preferred) – or Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Azure.
• Python, Unix, Git (or other version‑control tools).
• Advanced SQL and end‑to‑end ETL pipeline development.
• Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, MSSQL, Teradata, PostgreSQL.
• Data warehousing, data modelling and optimisation.
• Knowledge of marketing data solutions, CDPs and Power BI is a plus.
