Cyber Security Specialist – Canberra (NV1 Clearance)

About the role

We are looking for experienced Cyber Security Specialists to join our Canberra team. You will help shape and maintain robust cyber practices across multiple streams, supporting risk management, compliance, monitoring, and incident response for government‑related projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic cyber security advice to executives, boards and stakeholders, translating technical risks into business strategies.
• Ensure security practices align with ISM, PSPF, ACSC Essential Eight, NIST and other relevant frameworks.
• Identify, test and assess security controls in line with the Australian Government Information Security Manual.
• Develop, review and maintain accreditation and compliance artefacts such as SIA, SRA, SOA, SSP, SRMP, IRP and PIA.
• Deliver actionable risk‑treatment recommendations to reduce organisational exposure.
• Participate in independent assurance reviews and report findings to senior leadership.
• Support cyber security accreditation programmes and ICT projects by creating and reviewing security documentation.
• Apply knowledge of Federal Gateway, Google Cloud Platform, Azure and cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) to accreditation efforts.

Required profile

• Australian citizenship with a minimum NV1 security clearance.
• Extensive experience with risk and information security frameworks, policies and standards (e.g., Australian Cyber Security Centre’s ISM, PSPF, ISO 27001/02).
• Strong understanding of accreditation and assurance requirements.
• Proven ability to conduct security threat and risk assessments and produce accreditation artefacts.
• Experience working in complex ICT environments and awareness of global cyber‑security trends.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for high‑quality documentation and presentations.
