Commis Chef

About the role

Pier One Sydney Harbour is looking for a Commis Chef who is passionate about food, eager to learn and ready to grow in a dynamic kitchen. You will support the kitchen team in preparing and cooking high-quality dishes across a variety of stations, from chopping and portioning to plating and presentation, working closely with senior chefs and following recipes and standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients, including chopping, portioning and storing food
• Cook and present dishes according to recipes and quality standards
• Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers and microwaves
• Monitor food quality and test dishes for doneness
• Set up and break down workstations efficiently
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas, tools and equipment
• Follow food safety procedures and temperature checks
• Assist in preparing cold foods and mise-en-place for service
• Support the team during busy service periods
• Report maintenance issues, accidents or unsafe conditions to management

Required profile

• At least 1 year of experience in a commercial kitchen (preferred)
• Passion for cooking and eagerness to learn new techniques
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety
• Able to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Physically fit and able to stand, lift and move throughout shifts
• Flexible availability including weekends and holidays
