Clinical Nurse – Surgical Admissions

About the role

The Clinical Nurse provides advanced clinical and problem‑solving skills within the Surgical Admission Lounge and Day/23‑hour Unit. Working autonomously as part of the Healthcare Team, the role plans, manages and delivers specialist surgical nursing care for patients undergoing anaesthetic or sedation procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver safe, compassionate care that integrates the Nursing Professional Practice Model and Planetree philosophy, addressing patients' psychological, social, emotional, spiritual and physical needs.
• Plan, coordinate and execute specialist surgical nursing care for admissions, preparation, intra‑operative support and post‑operative recovery within the 23‑hour unit.
• Supervise, delegate to and mentor RNs, ENAs, USINs, ENs and AINs in line with the NMBA decision‑making framework.
• Adhere to guidelines, protocols and standards set by 4bc Day Surgery, the Division of Surgery & Perioperative Care, QCH, CHQHHS and Queensland Health.
• Participate in quality initiatives, clinical audits, research projects and education activities to promote evidence‑based practice.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and eligibility to practice as a Clinical Nurse.
• Demonstrated experience in surgical or peri‑operative nursing within a hospital setting.
• Ability to work autonomously, make clinical decisions and provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development, education and research.
