About the role
The Career Medical Officer provides independent psychiatric medical care across Royal Hobart Hospital after hours. Working closely with consultant psychiatrists and senior staff, you will support emergency and inpatient mental health services.
Key responsibilities
- Liaise with consultant psychiatrists on patient assessment and management.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation, including admissions, progress notes and discharge summaries.
- Respond promptly to clinical calls from nursing and allied health staff.
- Perform clinical procedures within scope of practice and ensure safe prescribing.
- Participate in discharge planning and continuity of care.
- Comply with professional, ethical and legal obligations, including the Tasmanian Mental Health Act.
Required profile
- Substantial experience in General Adult/Acute Psychiatry.
- Previous work in an Emergency Department is desirable.
- Ability to work independently while remaining accountable to the Clinical Director.
- Strong collaborative approach with multidisciplinary teams.
