Primary Substation Designer

About the role

Jacobs is seeking a Primary Substation Designer to join its Energy & Power team in Australia. The role supports the delivery of major transmission and distribution substation projects up to 500kV across the APAC region, working closely with Lead Primary Engineers, Design Managers and Project Managers.

Key responsibilities

• Support client‑facing design activities, including workshops, design reviews and Early Contractor Engagement.
• Coordinate global integrated delivery design inputs across multiple offices.
• Create BIM Execution Plans covering Revit model setup, standards definition, model coordination and lifecycle management.
• Provide and lead 2D drafting and 3D/BIM modelling, acting as Lead Drafter or Design Lead within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strengthen BIM‑led delivery and promote Jacobs’ digital delivery value proposition.

Required profile

• Prior experience as a primary substation designer (primary plant, civil or structural) within power and utilities.
• Demonstrated delivery of substation and transmission projects.
• Experience coordinating or leading design teams, including distributed or offshore models.
• Confidence in client‑facing roles, contributing to technical discussions and workshops.
