Parks Assistant

About the role

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is seeking a dedicated Parks Assistant to join its Parks Unit. Working within a small team, you will help maintain council parks, sports fields, nature strips and other open‑space assets for a diverse community of over 380,000 residents.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain parks, sports fields, nature strips and open‑space areas in line with service agreements and rosters.
• Conduct risk and hazard assessments and take corrective action where required.
• Identify and report landscape deficiencies, especially relating to park maintenance.
• Operate plant and equipment such as ride‑on mowers, brush cutters, edgers and blowers.
• Use minor plant items and hand tools for routine tasks.
• Collect litter, clean park amenities and report equipment faults.

Required profile

• Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
• Experience in parks and open‑space maintenance.
• Ability to work safely and meet service timeframes.

Required skills

• Operation of ride‑on and push mowers.
• Use of brush cutters, edgers and leaf blowers.
• Proficiency with hand tools for landscaping tasks.
